Fancy Pants Adventure
A stick figure in orange trousers with the best running and sliding physics Flash ever produced.
Brad Borne released the first Fancy Pants Adventure in 2006 and the movement is still better than most commercial platformers. The character accelerates realistically, keeps momentum through slopes, slides under gaps and runs up curved walls, and the whole level geometry is built out of hand-drawn curves specifically to exploit that.
There is almost no combat and no real challenge in finishing it. The game is about flow — chaining a slope into a wall run into a long jump without ever touching the brakes — and it rewards replaying levels purely to do them faster and more smoothly.
Controls
Arrow keys to run and jump, down arrow to slide, S to attack
Tips
- Never stop running. Momentum carries you up curves that are unreachable from standing.
- Slide into slopes to launch rather than jumping. The curves are drawn to be used as ramps.
- Explore the sides of levels. The squiggles and secret rooms are the only collectibles and they are well hidden.
