Fancy Pants Adventure 2
The sequel adds a pencil sword, more enemies and bigger levels without touching what made the movement great.
The World 2 release from 2008 is the fullest version of the Fancy Pants idea. The movement is unchanged, which was the right call, and everything around it got larger: proper combat with a giant pencil, more varied level geometry, a hub world and several genuinely good boss fights.
It is also much longer. Where the first was a demo of a movement system, this one is a real platformer built around it, with secrets worth hunting and a difficulty curve that assumes you have internalised the sliding. Still one of the best-feeling platformers on the web.
Controls
Arrow keys to run and jump, down arrow to slide, S to attack with the pencil
Tips
- Attacking does not stop you running. Swing while moving rather than stopping to fight.
- Wall runs need speed going in, so back up and build a run rather than jumping from the base.
- The hub has doors you cannot reach yet. Come back after a level teaches you the move you were missing.
