Tron
Light cycles leaving solid walls behind them. Last one not to crash into a wall wins.
The light cycle duel from Tron has been reimplemented more times than almost any other arcade idea, and the rules have never needed to change. Two bikes move constantly at the same speed, leaving an impassable trail behind them, and turning is the only input.
It is a game about space rather than speed. Both players are really trying to enclose the other in a smaller region than their own, so the strong play is hugging your own wall to waste as little space as possible while cutting across the opponent. Head to head it is as tense as any modern game.
Controls
Arrow keys for player one, WASD for player two
Tips
- Hug your own trail. Leaving wide gaps behind you wastes the space you will need later.
- Cut across the opponent to shrink their half of the board rather than running away into open space.
- Turn late. Every early turn commits space you might have wanted.
