Idle Breakout
Breakout where you do not control the paddle. You buy the balls, upgrade them, and watch the bricks come apart.
Idle Breakout takes the 1976 arcade game and removes the player from it entirely. There is no paddle. Instead you buy balls, each with its own behaviour, and they bounce around the field clearing bricks while you decide what to spend the proceeds on.
It works because the upgrade tree is genuinely deep. Plasma balls chain damage, sniper balls target the highest-health brick, scatter balls fragment, and the right mix changes as the brick health curve outruns your damage. There is real strategy in when to reset for a permanent multiplier, which is the part that keeps people in the tab for hours.
Controls
Mouse only: click bricks to damage them manually, click the panels to buy and upgrade balls
Tips
- Buy more cheap balls early rather than upgrading one. Damage scales with the number of collisions.
- Sniper balls are worth their cost once bricks have enough health that stray bounces stop mattering.
- Reset when progress stalls rather than grinding. The permanent multiplier pays back the lost level quickly.
