Awesome Tanks
Drive a tank through top-down maze levels, destroy everything, and spend the money on genuinely silly weapons.
Awesome Tanks is a top-down shooter with a blunt and very satisfying loop: every wall is destructible, every enemy drops money, and the shop between levels sells upgrades that visibly change how the game plays.
What makes it last is that the weapons are not sidegrades. The minigun, the flamethrower, the laser and the rocket launcher each solve different rooms, and the late-game shotgun turns corridors into a formality. Because the terrain breaks apart, you can also simply refuse to use the doorways, which is usually the correct answer to a defended room.
Controls
WASD or arrow keys to drive, mouse to aim, left click to fire, number keys or scroll to swap weapons
Tips
- Shoot through walls rather than entering a room. Making your own doorway avoids the ambush at the real one.
- Upgrade armour early. Damage lets you clear faster but armour is what lets you finish the level at all.
- Switch weapons for the room. The flamethrower clears crowds and the laser handles anything with armour.
