Retro Bowl
New Star Games' pixel football sim: you play the offence yourself, then handle roster, salary cap and press between games.
Retro Bowl is an American football game that looks like it came off a 16-bit console and plays like a management sim with a joypad attached. Released in 2020 by New Star Games, it hands you a team, a salary cap and a coaching staff and asks for a championship. You only play offence - the defence is simulated while you watch the score move.
Plays are simple: pick a formation, drag back to move, drag and release toward a receiver to throw. The depth is off the field, in drafting, trading, keeping star players happy and answering press questions without wrecking morale. Injuries, ageing and an unforgiving cap mean a good roster falls apart in three seasons if you don't plan ahead.
Controls
Mouse only - drag back to move the QB, drag and release toward a receiver to throw
Tips
- Lead your receiver into space; the pass lands where you release, not on whoever you aimed at.
- Spend early draft picks and cap room on the offensive line - a collapsing pocket wastes a good QB.
- Keep morale up with press answers and timely re-signings; unhappy stars start demanding trades.
