Rubik's Cube
A fully simulated three by three cube you can scramble and solve, with free rotation and no time pressure.
A straightforward digital Rubik's Cube: drag to rotate the whole cube in space, drag a face to turn it, and scramble whenever you want a fresh problem. There is no timer and no tutorial, which makes it a practice tool more than a game.
The cube has been unsolved by most people who own one since 1974, and the reason is that intuition stops working after the first layer. Every method past that point is a set of memorised algorithms that move a few pieces while putting everything else back where it was. Having one on screen that cannot be peeled or taken apart is arguably the honest version.
Controls
Mouse: drag a face to turn it, drag the background to rotate the whole cube
Tips
- Solve it in layers. The white cross first, then the white corners, then the middle layer, then the top.
- Past the first layer you need algorithms rather than intuition, because every useful move disturbs solved pieces.
- Rotate the whole cube to check the other side before committing. Most mistakes are made from only seeing half of it.
