Bloons Tower Defense 4
Ranks unlock towers as you pop, upgrade paths run four deep, and the Banana Farm turns defence into an economy in this 2009 entry.
BTD4 came out in October 2009 with a full art overhaul and eight new towers: the Glue Gunner, Monkey Ace, Mortar Tower, Monkey Apprentice, Banana Farm and Monkey Buccaneer at launch, with the Dartling Gun and Spike Factory following a few months later. Each tower now has four upgrades along a single path, the fourth being the expensive one that actually changes a round.
The structural change is the rank system. Towers, upgrades and modes stay locked until you have popped enough bloons across your account, which turns the game into a long grind rather than one sitting. The Banana Farm is the other shift, since it makes an economy worth building instead of spending every dollar on defence.
Controls
Mouse to place and upgrade; the Dartling Gun aims wherever the cursor is
Tips
- Buy a Banana Farm early on easier tracks. It pays itself back and funds a fourth-tier upgrade later.
- Ranks come from total bloons popped, so Freeplay runs are how you unlock the better towers faster.
- The Dartling Gun shoots at your cursor, so park it where you can hold the mouse over the leak point.
