Crossy Road
Frogger with a sense of humour: hop a chicken across endless traffic, rivers and train lines without stopping too long.
Hipster Whale released Crossy Road in 2014 as an explicit modernisation of Frogger, and it is one of the rare remakes that improves on the idea. You hop one square at a time across lanes of traffic, log-filled rivers and railway tracks, and the camera scrolls behind you so standing still is also fatal.
The voxel art and the enormous roster of unlockable characters are why people remember it, but the design is sharp underneath. Every lane type demands a different rhythm — traffic wants patience, rivers want constant movement, trains want you to read the warning light — and the game cycles them just fast enough that you never settle.

Tips
- Never stop moving forward for long. The camera catches up and removes the lane you are standing on.
- On rivers, plan two logs ahead. Landing on a log that is about to leave the screen is the most common drowning.
- Trains are telegraphed by the light on the track, so cross immediately after one passes rather than guessing.
