The Forest Temple, where it all starts: two characters, one keyboard, and pools of water, lava and goo that each kill one of them.
Fireboy and Watergirl in the Forest Temple is the 2009 original from Oslo Albet, and the entry that establishes the rule everything after it builds on. Fireboy walks through lava and dies in water. Watergirl walks through water and dies in lava. Green goo kills either one. Every level is a single screen holding two exit doors, and both characters have to reach the right one.
Because one keyboard drives both, the levels are built around handoffs: one of you stands on a button while the other crosses, then you swap. Solo play means alternating hands and accepting that you will be slower. The diamonds scattered around each stage are optional and exist purely to make a clean run harder.
Controls
Arrow keys move Fireboy; WASD moves Watergirl. Up or W to jump
Tips
- Read the whole screen before moving. Nearly every level has one lever or platform that only makes sense once you know where both doors are.
- Let the character with the shorter route go first. The one waiting on a button is the one who should have less to do afterwards.
- Diamonds are optional. Reach the doors first, learn the layout, then go back for a full clear if you want the star rating.
