Fruit Ninja

Fruit goes up, you swipe it in half, and you do not under any circumstances swipe the bombs.

Halfbrick released Fruit Ninja in 2010 and it sold tens of millions of copies on the strength of one satisfying gesture. Fruit is thrown into the air, a swipe cuts anything it crosses, and bombs mixed into the throws end the run instantly.

The scoring rewards greed. Cutting several fruit in one stroke pays a combo bonus, so the correct play is always to wait slightly longer than feels comfortable and take three in one sweep. Bombs exist specifically to punish that instinct, which is the whole tension of the game in a single sentence.
