Hextris
Tetris wrapped around a hexagon. Rotate the centre so incoming blocks land on their own colour, three in a row to clear.
Hextris takes the falling-block idea and bends it into a circle. Coloured blocks drift in from all six directions toward a hexagon in the middle, and you rotate the hexagon rather than the blocks to decide which face each one lands on.
Matching three of a colour on one face clears them, and clears cascade, so a well-set-up rotation can unravel half the board. The pressure comes from the fact that blocks arrive from every side at once, so looking after one face means ignoring five others. It is free, open source and has been quietly excellent since 2014.
Controls
Left and right arrow keys, or click either side of the hexagon, to rotate
Tips
- Keep every face roughly even. A single tall stack ends the game while the other five are still empty.
- Set up cascades deliberately. One clear that triggers two more is worth far more than three separate clears.
- Rotate early, because a block that has nearly arrived cannot be redirected to the face you wanted.
