This Is The Only Level
One room, thirty times. The level never changes but the rules do, and nobody tells you how.
Armor Games released This Is The Only Level in 2009 and the joke is in the title. You play an elephant in a small room with a button, a pipe and some spikes, and you solve it. Then you play exactly the same room again, except something about the rules has silently changed.
The controls might be reversed, or the jump might be enormous, or the button might need to be pressed a specific number of times. Working out what changed is the entire game, and with thirty variations on one twenty-second level it never outstays its welcome.
Controls
Arrow keys to move and jump — though not always
Tips
- When the room restarts, test the controls first. Many stages change what the keys do rather than the level.
- Read the hint text at the top. It is always a genuine clue, usually a pun.
- If nothing seems different, the change is probably in the button or the pipe rather than in your movement.
