Wordle
Six guesses at a five letter word. Green means right letter and place, yellow means right letter and wrong place.
Josh Wardle built Wordle for one person and the internet took it in late 2021. The rules are tiny and the information design is what makes it work: each guess tells you exactly three things about every letter, and six guesses is just enough to be comfortable if you spend them well.
Unlike the original there is no daily limit here, so you can play as many as you like. The optimal strategy is well studied — openers that cover the most common letters, and a willingness to spend guess two on information rather than on a plausible answer — but it stays enjoyable even once you know all that.

Tips
- Open with a word covering five common letters. Vowel coverage matters more than guessing the answer early.
- Spend the second guess on five new letters rather than reusing greens. Information beats a lucky attempt.
- Watch for repeated letters. They are the most common reason a well-reasoned guess runs out of room.
