Super Meat Boy: The Flash Version
The browser prototype that became Super Meat Boy: wall jumps, saw blades, and a death counter that climbs fast.
Before Team Meat released Super Meat Boy on consoles, this Flash version came out in 2008 and contains the entire idea already fully formed. Meat Boy runs fast, sticks to walls, and dies the instant he touches anything sharp.
The design philosophy is that death is cheap. Restarts are immediate, levels are twenty seconds long, and the game expects you to fail a level thirty times while learning its one specific rhythm. The wall jump is the heart of it: you can climb almost anything if you alternate fast enough, and most levels are built to test exactly that.
Controls
Arrow keys or WASD to move, Space or X to jump. Jump into a wall to cling and jump again
Tips
- Jump the instant you touch a wall rather than sliding down it. Height is lost immediately on contact.
- Commit to a run. Hesitating mid-level is what kills most attempts, because the levels are timed around full speed.
- Dying costs nothing but a second, so treat the first few attempts as mapping the level rather than playing it.
